8     <p>Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth
9     on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and
10     dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
11     Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing
12     whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so
13     dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-
14     field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of
15     that field as a final resting-place for those who here gave
16     their lives that this nation might live. It is altogether
17     fitting and proper that we should do this.
18     But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate...we cannot
19     consecrate...we cannot hallow...this ground. The brave men,
20     living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it
21     far above our poor power to add or detract. The world
22     will little note nor long remember what we say here, but
23     it can never forget what they did here. It is for us, the
24     living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished
25     work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly
26     advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the
27     great task remaining before us...that from these honored
28     dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which
29     they gave the last full measure of devotion; that we here
30     highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain;
31     that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of
32     freedom; and that government of the people, by the people,
33     for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
