(ニュース・メッセージの書式) を出典として登録しました。
登録されたのは1993年6月22日のことでした
[SRC[[[son-of-RFC 1036]]]]。
当時の媒体型登録手続きは、現在のような媒体型登録の雛形は不要で、
媒体型の[[実現値]]の書式の出版された定義さえあれば構いませんでしたから、
そのように登録されています。 [SRC[Henry, 2004]]

ニュースのメッセージの書式が [[RFC 822]]
とほぼ同じであるにもかかわらず、 [CODE(MIME)[message/rfc822]]
とは別の [CODE(MIME)[message/news]] を登録したのは、
当時の [[RFC 1341]] による [CODE(MIME)[message/rfc822]]
の定義がニュース用には不適と考えたからだそうですが、
具体的にどういう問題があったのかは Henry
は覚えていないそうです。また、後で [CODE(MIME)[message/rfc822]]
の定義が改善されて今では不適切とは考えていないそうです。

[5] IETF の [[Usefor]] 作業部会で審議中の
[[usefor-article]] [[I-D]] は、 [CODE(MIME)[message/news]]
がほとんど採用されていないことから廃止するとしています。

RFC になるかまったく目処が立ちません。)
